Panel to probe Jang begins sitting Thursday

The Judicial Commission Of Inquiry  set up by the Plateau State  Governor,  Mr. Simon Lalong, to investigate the eight years of financial dealings of his predecessor, Jonah Jang, is set to start sitting on Thursday.

The Secretary of the commission, Alhaji Sani Yahaya, told newsmen in Jos that the committee would start the probe process after receiving memoranda from members of the public.

The panel’s Secretary assured the people that all parties would be giving a fair hearing, adding  that the six members of the  commission “are people of proven character and integrity.”

He, however, stated that submission of memoranda was still ongoing.

He said, “We are still receiving memoranda, we want to ensure that those who had interest submits memoranda to the commission, we have no preference for anyone or group of persons.”

He, however, did not disclose the number of memoranda received so far, but noted that there was a positive response.

Yahaya said, “I can’t tell you the number of memoranda we have collected, because we are still in the process, but I can assure you it will be made known to the public by the chairman of the commission during our inaugural sitting on Thursday.”

Lalong had inaugurated a six-man judicial commission of inquiry under the chairmanship of Justice Stephen Adah to investigate the entire financial dealings, including salaries paid to civil servants in the state by the Jang administration.
