But currently in the music industry, the set of artistes who represent the streets are currently on a rave, both as a result of doing well musically and as well as causing serious commotions by exchanging words with other artistes. Naira Marley suggested her ‘attitude’ to him could be as a result of what he wrote on social media about “Yahoo.” He added that he isn’t an internet fraudster so why did Simi give to him negative energy.

Triple MG Boss Reacts To Song Theft Allegation Against Tekno By Danfo Drivers

The internet went agog with the news that Danfo Drivers are threatening to confront Tekno over Intellectual property theft. The Triple MG singer was accused of using their material on his latest single titled Jogodo. The tensed situation got people talking and Tekno’s label owner has reacted to the claim.

Some weeks ago, Tekno released a song titled Jogodo, on which he sampled a classic street anthem released by Danfo Drivers more than a decade ago. The group has called out the Triple MG singer and threatened to take further actions against him.

Tekno’s label owner, Ubi Franklin has now reacted to the claims by Danfo Drivers that Tekno used their material without permission. He stated that contrary to their claim, they (Tekno’s camp) reached out to the Danfo Drivers but their response was inconclusive. He went on to dismiss their threat as a funny joke.

Olamide & Wizkid are two of the finest music talents of their blessed generation. From the onset, Wizkid had been touted to become the future of Nigerian music while Olamide was labeled the crowned prince of Indigenous rap music.

These two music talents have since treaded their different paths to fulfil ‘prophecies.’ Today, Olamide is the biggest name in the Indigenous rap category while Wizkid is the most recognised Nigerian artiste.

The paths of the two stars first crossed in 2011 when they made Omo To Shan and showed to the world, the synergy they share. They further collaborated on songs like Ori Mi and Confam Ni. The two music royalties linked up on a freshly released record titled ‘Kana’ and below is what we think about it.

@ibironketweets The version of ‘Kana’ which I listened to must be different. It doesn’t exactly sound like the great piece most social commentators have dubbed it. It’s grooviness and measured tempo are appreciable but we have had offerings with even better features from both artistes in the past.

‘Kana’ sounds like a song made out of boredom or perhaps the rush to make something with the rarity of having two of the industry’s finest in the studio. Flirting, which happens to be Wizzy’s favourite, is the subject here but the expression is cold.

For me, ‘Kana’ falls short of the standard expected from two of the industry’s finest. It is the kind of record two C-list artistes would put out and it would not make it to the charts but it’s there ‘cos it’s Wizkid & Olamide. For shortage of great materials, ‘Kana’ would make my list of the week’s top songs but my hope of replacing it, is high.

@dahnielz Known for his consistency, Olamide drops new songs on an average of 2 months within a year. The rapper who just recently dropped Owo Shayo has returned to our review list with Kana featuring Starboy.

Like ‘Owo Shayo’, Kana is a song that comes with an entirely different vibe from the shaku shaku wave. An Olamide-Wizkid feature in the past has not exactly been a jaw dropping one, the two are obviously not in their peak unlike they were when ‘Omo To Shan’ dropped.

Kana is just your everyday average song; I would like to think Olamide is still experimenting with other sounds to see which new ‘banger’ will rock our ears

Davido Reportedly Helps Chioma Secure Multi-Million Naira Deal

Just last week, during Chioma’s birthday rave, it was reported that Davido turned down a N60 million endorsement offer meant for his lover because it didn’t meet his N100 million target. The latest report has it that the singer has finally secured a ‘multi-million’ naira deal for his girlfriend.

Chioma Avril Rowland, Davido’s lover, celebrated her birthday on Monday, 30th of April, 2018. Davido celebrated her in style, dedicating a song and a video to her on the special day. He threw her a huge party and presented a N45 million worth Porsche SUV to her, as a gift.

This caused Chioma to trend on social media. Nigerians talked about her and the gifts she received from Davido, which the singer called ‘Assurance’; and it happens to be the title of the special song dedicated to Chioma. In the middle of the social media frenzy, Davido announced that he received a N60 million endorsement offer for Chioma but turned it down because it didn’t meet his N100 million demand.

As expected, Nigerians made different reactions to the story. While some were shocked at the amount offered to Chioma, several others doubted the validity of the story. However, it appears Davido has finally helped his lover secure the deal, after he shared a picture of her during a photo session believed to be for her unnamed new sponsor, and tagged it ‘overnight multi-millionaire.’

2Baba, Eedris Abdulkareem Are My Best Artistes Of All Time – Kenny Ogungbe

Iconic media personality and revered music patron, Kenny Ogungbe had a chat with Saturday Beats, during which he revealed that although he sponsored a horde of music talents through his label, Kennis Music, Tuface and Eedris Abdulkareem remain his best signees of all times and he explained why.

Fondly referred to as Baba Keke, he further described the acts as his best friends.

“My greatest artistes of all time would be Tuface and Eedris Abdulkareem. As for Tuface, I call him my best artiste of all time because he sold the name Kennis Music and the highest number of records. I like Eedris Abdulkareem simply because he is straightforward and honest. Eedris is a very loyal person that would stay with you forever,” Baba Keke said.

The music executive revealed how Eedris Abdulkareem left his record label.

“Eedris never left my record label controversially. The contract I signed with them was for sales and management fee but it was only Tuface that was giving us management fees, I did that for quite a while till I held a meeting with my people. I told them that since it was only Tuface that was giving me management fees, I could as well forget the others. I remember that I granted an interview with Ayeni and he captioned the story, ‘Kennis Music sacks artistes except Tuface’. That was what happened. The artistes were upset which is a normal reaction because if I were in their shoes, I would be upset as well but everything was eventually settled. Eedris came to me and said that he had a song, I listened to it and that is how we started working together again. Like I said, Tuface, Eedris Abdulkareem are my two greatest friends,” he said.

Speaking on how he met both artistes, Baba Keke said that after Tuface left Plantashun Boiz, he came to meet him.

“Tuface came to me, I did not go to him. He came to me and said Baba, let’s work. The first time we met was while he was still with Plantashun Boiz; it was Tony Tetuila that introduced him to me. I was thinking of signing Plantashun Boiz but they were with Nelson Brown, so I did not push. After their group split, Tuface came to meet me that we should work together and I agreed. I did not need any confirmation that he is a great guy. He is humble, gentle and very talented.

“I signed Eedris and the Remedies because their music was unique. No one was doing the kind of music that they did. It was very genuine, youthful and energetic. It was equally attractive. I did not know them before I signed them but the first time I heard their song, I aired it on the radio. At that particular time, Dr. Raymond Dokpesi had instructed us to search for Nigerian artistes and there was nobody till I met them. Their song, ‘Shakomo,’ was recorded by the Ray Power producer who later became their official music producer. They had initially recorded the song at Alagbado but it was not clear enough, so we had to re-make it at the Ray Power studio,” he said.

He further stated the reason why he could not stop the separation of The Remedies despite the fact that they were under his record label.

M.I Reacts To J. Cole’s Performance, Asks Nigerian Rappers To Fix Up

American rapper, J. Cole delivered a special performance at the recently held Castle Lite-organised Lagos concert which saw a crowd of Nigerians, cheer him and rap along to his rendition. This has sparked a conversation about the rap culture in Nigeria and M.I Abaga joined in the talk.

For most part of 2017, M.I Abaga was having a public conversation about the dying Hip-hop culture in Nigeria. The conversation started after he released a controversial song titled ‘Fix Up Your Life.’ On the song, he called out Nigerian rappers, urging them to do more to raise the standard of the genre.

Nigerian rappers of all stature reacted to this call in different ways, Phyno, Vector, N6, Dremo are among those who reacted. The popular opinion was that rap music is not exactly marketable in Nigeria and it is difficult, especially for the rappers, not to commercialize their craft.

Interestingly, a certain @HEAD_MASTA revisited the topic after seeing the impressive reaction of Nigerians to J. Cole’s music. He put out a tweet that read,

Not surprisingly,  M.I Abaga reacted to the tweet, stating that the audience at the event only form a small fraction of the Nigerian music consumer base. In his tweet he stated that ‘Nigerian artists can not rely on these lot to feed us.’

Aje” Or “Commando” – Which Is The Hotter Record?

A lot of time has gone to arguments about who sings better between Wizkid and Davido.

A lot of effort has gone to trying to prove who has better music qualities between the two singers. But there has been no general consensus because with each new release, they seem to outdo their previous works.

Wizkid and his proteges dropped Commando amongst other leaks and Davido, alongside his DMW signees, dropped Aje. Both songs have been growing in airplay numbers and alternating for the top of the charts.

Article: Rape and the Nigerian condition – Promise Adiele

A first glance at the title of Alexander Pope’s poem The Rape of the Lock immediately rouses the sensibilities to his deployment of the word ‘rape’. Although the mind instantly acquires a sexual cognition of ‘rape’, Pope’s use of it connotes entirely different meaning in the context of the poem. For Pope, ‘rape’ means to take away or remove something from its original place thereby depriving the owner of its importance and service. Indeed, this appears remote from ‘rape’ which describes the forceful initiation of sex without the consent of one of the persons involved.

Before we begin to scrutinize rape, let us establish that the symbolic ethos of any society is essentially composed in its moral order by which the conduct of members is regulated. A breakdown of moral order in any society through rape signifies a dislocation of cosmic harmony and therefore requires propitiation, sometimes punitive; in order to salvage humanity’s doomed fate before chthonic gods. Rape is an undesirable, anti-social act which must be consistently repudiated and abhorred. I do not know of any religion, culture or creed that condones rape. Whether as an act of sexual pervasion or an act of stealing, rape today – like all other social vulgarity – stands trial in the court of public opinion.

Recently, there have been many reports in social and main stream media describing incidents of rape with the geography of victims covering the entire country. In most cases, the victims die or are permanently maimed psychologically and physically. I read the story of a 41 year old man who raped a four year old niece of his to death. What about the story of a 33 year old man who raped his grandmother of 86 years to death.

Consider the chilling story of a 50 year old driver who raped his boss’s 14 year old daughter inside a car and impregnated her. Sometimes rape victims suffer ignominy, lewd and ribald jokes later in their adult lives. Sometimes too, rape victims commit suicide refusing to live with the corrosive memory of the incident. In our homes, in the absence of mum and dad, daughters, nieces and cousins are raped. Some husbands rape their maids. In the corporate world, rape happens. In some of our churches, while the young lady or wife meets the self-styled man of God for counselling, rape happens. In our higher institutions, a marauding lecturer unleashes his sexual urge on a hapless student, rape happens. Regrettably, rape victims refuse to expose those who have violated them; therefore the perpetrators continue to gloat over their deeds and walk as free men.

Unravelling the causes of rape is a daunting task. There are men among us who are sexually demented, whose morbid drive for sex and unrestrained libido have led to embrace necrophilia. There are men whose philandering tendencies and inclinations to sex recreate demonic savagery. Or is the rape mentality activated by fragments of sinister byways of the mind in the face of economic misfortune and hopelessness? If reports of rape involving two human beings grate at our emotions, how about the rape of an animal by a male adult? I have read how a 36 year old man raped a fowl to death. What about a 44 year old man who was caught while trying to copulate with a sheep? Bestiality and sexual psychosis, are they ingrained in the human genome?

Let us turn to another aspect of rape where we are all victims. Nigeria’s economic and socio-political history points to a populace roundly raped and are still being raped. In this case, I use rape to depict stealing and denial, in the way Alexander Pope used it in his poem. Year after year, public officers who lack the basic tenets of leadership beyond avarice and self enrichment are enthroned. We are faced with people torn to shreds by such irreverent considerations as ethnicity, religion and political patronage. The continual burglary of the exchequer at all levels of government establishment evidenced by the perennial lack of infrastructure exposes Nigerians as victims of rape. Of course there are people with warped value systems complicit in the daily rape of our fatherland. While contemporary events points Nigerians to a new beginning come 2019, these people pull in opposite direction in their pursuit of inordinate, self gratifying ends.

The Nigerian child, in his pursuit of academic excellence is raped by such retrogressive gradualism like quota system. Our children who score high marks are denied opportunities to federal schools and universities because they come from a particular region of the country while their counterparts from other regions are selected ahead of them. Nigerians who wish to be enlisted into the police, army, customs or any of the security agencies are raped because their merit opportunities are stolen and denied them in favour of their fellow kwantry men. I hear that many people from the Southern part of the country presently claim to come from Northern states and manipulate their names to reflect Northern origin just to gain admission to universities and get recruited into any arm of our security agencies. A more repugnant crassness in the control of power mechanism has yet to be imagined which makes it possible for educationally handicapped persons to become political leaders and directors of government agencies over their educationally illustrious counterparts from other parts of the country.

Given the above explication of rape, what then is the best way to address the issue? Should rape be avenged or left to fester? If someone’s daughter or relation is raped, what should the person do? Should the person follow the law with all the attendant chicanery associated with our penal system or take the laws into one’s hands and extract quick revenge? There is a tribe in Taiwan where rapists are bound hands and legs and big, ferocious rabbits are called to eat their manhood while they watch – the agony of slow death.

There is another tribe in Japan where the scrotum of the rapist is placed on a wooden stool and a pestle is used to crush them to pieces. Better still, should rapists have broomsticks driven up their genitals? Or should we resort to necromancy inviting Amadioha and Sango, deities famed for their ability to achieve retribution through the swift agency of thunder and lightning? Alternatively, when rape happens, should we rehash that sterile platitude associated with timorous, coward consciences ‘let bygones be bygones’?

Again, how should a people in a country avenge their rape when abundant resources in the country are converted to personal use seeing that raped nations are either led to a ruinous debauchery or a passion for revenge which results to revolution and resistance? Let resistance and revolution happen at the altar of elections in 2019 where the people must make a statement and alter the progressive ascent of socio-economic rape. In this way, rape can appropriately be banished in its minuscule manifestation as we matriculate towards a new nationhood.

Laolu Akins Produced The Best Soundtracks Of My Life – Cobhams Asuquo

Producer, Cobhams Asuquo had a rare moment with a man he described as his childhood hero, Laolu Akins, at the recently held Nigerian Entertainment Conference (NEC). And the seasoned producer was happy to share their story on Instagram.

Laolu Akins, the iconic producer, produced some of the best Nigerian music of the 80s and 90s, with artistes like Sir Shina Peter and Dele Ayuba. In his active years, his works became a primary source of entertainment for Nigerians while artists like Cobhmas Asuquo drew inspiration from them.

Referring to Laolu Akins in his Instagram post, Cobhams stated that “this man produced some of the biggest soundtracks to my life. It’s a real honour to be standing with him, it’s because of people like this that I became a producer.”

“I Will Drop The Biggest Song In Nigeria On April 30” – Davido Announces (See The Title)

Davido says his upcoming single which will be released on April 30 will be the “biggest song in the country”.

He said the song is called ‘Assurance’.

The singer who runs Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) made this known on Thursday during a joint interview with artistes signed to his label.

During interview with Cool FM, Davido said:-

“I’m dropping a single on the 30th of April. It’s gonna be the biggest song in the country. It’s called ‘Assurance”.

Davido alongside Yonda, Peruzzi, Fresh VDM, members of DMW, recently released a song titled ‘Aje’.

According to the singer, ‘Aje’ is the lead single of the collaboration album which will feature all the members of the label, including Dremo, Mayorkun, Idowest, DJ E-Cool, and Ichaba.

He said the DMW album will be out in June, describing it as a collaboration with Sony Music Africa. His own third studio album, Davido said, will be released in September.

The artiste signed to Sony/RCA spoke about his friendship with DJ E Cool, who he said he has known since the age of 11.

He said:-

“Me and E-Cool, we grew up in Atlanta together. You won’t believe when I was 11 running around in Atlanta, this guy used to block me from parties. He won’t allow me to enter.”

Davido also canvassed for votes for his artistes ahead of the 2018 Headies. Mayorkun is nominated in the next rated category while Peruzzi is up for rookie of the year.

“If I don’t win I’m okay. But I want to vote for my brothers, Mayorkun and Peruzzi. Vote for them, they deserve it,” he said.

Mayorkun Reunites With His Dad After Years Apart

Singer, Mayorkun has put the industry in the mood of familial love with his touching story of how he recently met with his dad after two years apart.

The DMW singer took to Instagram to share the story of his reunion with his dad which happened in Texas. In his narrative, he stated that he has not met with his dad in 2 years and at the last time he met his dad he was only ‘Mayowa’ and not ‘Mayorkun’ the pop star that he is popularly known as today.

He stated that his dad came to Texas for his show and they shared a rare moment of father-son love. The singer shared his picture with his dad in his post and it has since evoked multitude of awww-like comments

Jurgen Klopp has said that his Liverpool players were ‘pretty much perfect for 80 minutes’ of their Champions League semi-final first leg against Roma on Tuesday night.

Liverpool were 5-0 ahead in the 69th minute of the match, but conceded twice in the final nine minutes to ultimately record a 5-2 success at Anfield.

Klopp was keen to pay tribute to his side for their overall performance, although the German refused to hide his disappointment when discussing the two late goals that the Reds conceded.

“Long-term perfect performance for pretty much 80 minutes or so. We made defensively one mistake. Penalty is not a penalty but that is the situation and now it is 5-2,” Klopp told BT Sport.

“Of course we would have been more happy with 5-0 or 5-1 but 5-2 is a fantastic result. We go there and try again. We had all these runs behind, it changed the game completely and they couldn’t cope with that.

“We scored these goals and could have scored more. That is all positive, at this moment it doesn’t feel all positive because they scored these two goals but tomorrow I will see the really good part of the game. It is absolutely better than I thought before the game but at the moment of course a little mistake

Nigerian beautiful pop singer, Seyi Shay has opened up on her readiness to become a bride after so much achievements from her music career.

In a recent interview with Saturday beats, the singer revealed how her mother would advise that she should not allow any man to stop her dream.

According to her, she wished her late mom was alive to see all she has become because she took to her words.

Seyi Shay said;

“Currently all my father does is to pray for me. Before my mother died, her last words to me were that I should become all I can be and I would eventually make it in Nigeria. I really miss my mother and I wish she could see everything that I am doing now.

I wish she could see that I have not given up despite the setbacks I encounter in my job. I think my mother would be proud of me.

“If my mother was alive, I am sure she would always ask me when I would introduce her to my fiancé but before her death, she never pressured me about marriage.

Before she died, she told me that I should make sure I have done everything I wanted to do before any other thing. She said I should not let any man stop my dream.

That is what she said to me. Now, I am ready for marriage, I even sang about it in my new project.”
